The National Frontier Trails Museum is a must-see for history enthusiasts! Devoted to the westward migration of the 1800s, this museum features an original covered wagon, trail artifacts, original diaries and letters, interactive exhibits, and an award-winning film on the importance of the three main western trails and how Independence, MO, served as their principal “jumping off†point. The museum also functions as the largest research library on the western trails, with more than 3,500 texts dedicated to the subject.

Truman’s home before, during, and after his presidency, and you can take a guided tour of his beautiful white house with the National Park Service. Furnished simply with little decoration, Harry S. Truman and his wife, Bess Truman, lived a quiet life in Independence before and after his 8 years in office.
